Paʻina at the Pool! The final day of UH Hilo new student orientation, a pool party!
The event was held at the university’s Student Life Center and was the perfect way to spend a hot muggy day (and a state holiday at that!).

Today’s New Student Orientation event at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo was Paʻina at the Pool, a pool party!
The event was held at the university’s Student Life Center and was the perfect way to spend a hot muggy day (and a state holiday at that!).
“It went really well! 204 sign ins!” says Vanessa Carlson, Campus Center program coordinator, about today’s 11:00 am to 2:00 pm event.
The pool party was held on the final day of Fall Student Orientation with pool games, trivia, prizes, food trucks, and access to the Student Life Center and pool facilities. AND there were sing-alongs to music played by Jake Galves, emcee and student organizations and engagement coordinator.
Orientation events held on Wednesday and Thursday included a Kīpaepae (welcome ceremony) and Convocation, campus tours, a Campus Resource Fair at the Campus Center Plaza and a Taste of Hilo lunch.
Today’s Paʻina at the Pool was the perfect chance for new students to relax, meet new friends, and kick off their UH Hilo experience before the first day of classes on Monday.
Vulcan Weeks of Welcome
Next week, Aug. 24-27, is the first week of classes with more welcome activities, with a Steps to Success Resource Fair on Wednesday and a Sensory Sanctuary on Thursday. The following week, Aug. 31-Sept. 3, are info, resource, and job fairs.
