A 17-year-old from Pepeʻekeo facing the challenges of leukemia wished for tuition assistance as a pre-engineering student at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation in collaboration with the Emerging Leaders Council Foundation and UH Hilo made Rancin‘s wish come true.
“The maturity he shows by choosing college as his wish speaks well not only of him today but where he’s going to go in his future,” says UH Hilo Chancellor Bonnie Irwin. “It’s a bright day for both Rancin and for UH Hilo.”

For Rancin, a thoughtful and determined 17-year-old from Pepeʻekeo, that means taking an inspiring step toward his future as a pre-engineering student at UH Hilo. While facing the challenges of leukemia with strength, Rancin wished to have college tuition assistance—reflecting his love of learning, problem-solving and the bright future he’s working so hard to build.
