UH Hilo pharmacy Class of 2026 breaks college’s match-rate record for residency program placements

For the pharmacy doctoral Class of 2026, 37% matched into residency programs, representing the highest such percentage in the college’s history.

University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo pharmacy college’s doctoral Class of 2026 broke a record this month with 37% of the class matched into residency programs, representing the highest such percentage in the college’s history.

The Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy (DKICP) Class of 2026 also achieved a 91% match rate for postgraduate year-one pharmacy residency (PGY1).

The doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) graduates and soon to be graduates from college will be pursuing advanced clinical training through the 2026 American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) match for pharmacy residencies.

The Class of 2025 posted a notable 100% match rate for postgraduate year 2 (PGY2) residencies, with two alumni pursuing specialized training in oncology and ambulatory care.

Postgraduate residencies provide advanced training for doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) graduates, usually with a clinical emphasis, and sometimes a specialized focus. Unlike physicians, pharmacists are not required to pursue postgraduate training, although most who are interested in clinically-focused careers do so.

The PharmD students and alumni matched for residencies in five states as follows:
