Each week during the school year, Hale Kuamoʻo, the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo’s Hawaiian Language Center, posts a new “Word of the Week” as part of a series of short videos called Moʻohua.

Once a week, a single ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian language) word is introduced along with its meaning and an example sentence of its usage.

This week’s word is hale waihona puke, meaning a place where all kinds of educational literature are kept, such as books and newspapers, for the public to read and research.

Aloha Poʻalima kākou! Eia mai ʻo Kamilei Kahanaʻoi e hoʻolaha aku nei i ka huaʻōlelo o ka pule, ʻo “hale waihona puke.” Pehea, ua kipa mua anei ʻoe i kēia hale waihona puke? A hemo ʻo Moʻokini ma nā Lāpule mai ka hola 1 o ke ahiahi a hiki i ka hola 9.
