Each week during the school year, Hale Kuamoʻo, the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo’s Hawaiian Language Center, posts a new “Word of the Week” as part of a series of short videos called Moʻohua.
Once a week, a single ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian language) word is introduced along with its meaning and an example sentence of its usage.
This week’s word is āiwaiwa, meaning characteristic of one’s actions such as amazing or wondrous. This week’s Word of the Week is narrated by UH Hilo Kumu Larry Kimura as he stands near the portrait of Chiefess Ruth Keʻelikōlani Keanolani Kanāhoahoa, namesake of UH Hilo’s Ka Haka ʻUla o Keʻelikōlani College of Hawaiian Language.
