“Many students don’t have the time or money to eat properly while they are in school, and the program allows us to remind our students that their health matters,” says Lara Gomez, associate dean of academic affairs at the college.

In addition to food items, wellness activities sponsored for pharmacy students include mindfulness exercises such as breathing exercises and kinetic sand, games including ping pong and pickleball, and outlets for artistic expression opportunities through cardmaking, origami, and mandala coloring.

The college also is partnering with UH Hilo Counseling Services outreach to ensure that a range of activities and services are available for pharmacy students.

Molokai Drugs, Inc. is the inaugural sponsor of the program. A long-time partner of the college, the local drugstore located in Kaunakakai, Molokaʻi, is committed to providing services and support that will be impactful for the college and community.

The pharmacy college has also expanded programming to include faculty and staff in its wellness programs.

“It is rewarding to interact with our students and provide an outlet for their worries as we come together to support each other,” says Christina Requelman, clinical education support specialist at the college.
