UH Hilo Celebrates Black History Month: Cultural Event on the Plaza, Panel Discussion, Art Exhibit, Film Presentations, Feb 22-28

The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo will be holding several events for Black History Month: A Celebration of Culture, an Art Exhibit, and two Film Presentations.

A Celebration of Culture Event will be held Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the
Campus Center Plaza.

  • Vendors featuring Black and Melanated Entrepreneurs from the community.
  • Art Exhibit in Campus Center, room 301, curated by Lamerol Gatewood and featuring Black artists.
  • Gospel music performance by Shallon Craddock.
  • Dance performance by Papa New Guinea students.
  • DJ music.
  • Academic panel on “Race and Identity,” presented by KemuEl Negus and Cozmo El from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Ethiopian and Afrofusion food will be served.
