2023 Spring Vulcan ‘Ohana “Week of Welcome” underway at UH Hilo
An informational fair, a Saimin Says event with saimin giveaway, a paint-by-numbers event, and student ID pick up are scheduled throughout the week.

This week, the first week of instruction for spring 2023 at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo, the Campus Center and chartered student organizations are sponsoring welcome events to kick-off the semester. The first event is chock full of information about student resources and fun social events along with freebies and giveaways.
“We are looking forward to seeing all our students, faculty, and staff return from the winter break,” says Lai Sha Bugado, director of the Campus Center. “Vulcan ‘Ohana Week of Welcome is kicking off with our information fair that allows our new and returning students to interact with all of the amazing programs, services, departments, and organizations that we have on campus.”
That event took place yesterday and today at the Campus Center Plaza, where 25 groups and organizations shared information on resources available to students.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 11, brings the Student Activities Council’s “Saimin Says” event also at the Campus Center Plaza, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. As a nod to Saimin Day, the Student Activities Council is giving away to-go bowls of Zippy’s saimin. The goal is to reconnect with students and give them a warm welcome after winter break.
Also on Wednesday, at the Student Services Center, a Paint by Numbers event is being hosted by the First Year Experience program from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Students are invited to create a masterpiece of native flowers, islands, and lei.
Students are welcome to drop by Lava Landing all week at the Campus Center to pick up a student ID.
