UH Hilo Performing Arts Center presents world premier of delightful children’s musical, Wordsworth the Poet, Nov. 4-6
Wordsworth the Poet, is a heartwarming tale the entire family will love.
WORDSWORTH THE MUSICAL
The world-premier of the musical, Wordsworth the Poet, is happening at the Unviersity of Hawaii at Hilo’s Performing Arts Center Nov. 4-6, 2022. The show is based on the beloved children’s books, Wordsworth the Poet and Wordsworth Dances the Waltz by Hawaii Island author Frances H. Kakugawa.
The stage production of Wordsworth the Poet, conceived by Lizby, written by retired UH Hilo Professor of Drama Jackie Pualani Johnson with music composed by Wendell Ing, directed by Justina Mattos (Associate Professor of Drama and Chair of the Department of Performing Arts) and choreographed by Kea Kapahua (Lecturer of Dance) is truly Hawaii Island born!
A heartwarming tale the entire family will love. Wordsworth is a mouse-poet. The other mice make fun of him and his “silly” poems, until a day when the sun disappears, the sky rumbles, and the rain relentlessly falls. That’s when Wordsworth shows the others how poetry can help us through dark times. Then, when his beloved Tūtū becomes forgetful and the children are admonished to “hush” around her, Wordsworth’s poems help them understand that Grandma still needs to laugh, dance, and spend time with ʻohana.
