UH Hilo international students stuff Christmas stockings for homeless keiki. The students and their host families donated various needed items—for example, toothbrushes, soap, crayons, coloring books, and toys—to fill 48 stockings for local homeless children.
Covid Updates
COVID-19 Booster and Testing On-Campus Clinic:

- The COVID-19 booster is available for employees and all students this Friday, Dec. 10, noon to 4:00 p.m., University Classroom Building, room 127, on a first-come, first-served basis. Email uhhcovid@hawaii.edu with your request to ensure sufficient supply. Be sure to bring your valid state ID, medical insurance card, and vaccination card to verify previous doses. Employees seeking their first series of vaccinations may also come to this clinic. This clinic is also for student testing so please plan accordingly. Everyone’s patience is appreciated.
External Testing Option for Employees and Students:

- Clinical Labs statewide. PCR testing. Registration required. Testing by online appointment only; walk-ins not accepted.

“Self-assembly as the future of nanotechnology,” Igor Sokolov, Professor of Physics, Tufts University, Friday, Dec. 10, 10:00 a.m., via Zoom. Hosted by UH Hilo’s Professor of Physics Philippe Binder.
Historic Hawai‘i Foundation presents “Sharing the Multilayered History of Hilo from the Wailuku to Wailoa River,” a panel discussion with Lokelani Brandt, Kerri Inglis, and students from HIST 284 (History of Hawaiʻi) and HIST 332 (Hawaiian Kingdom) on their experiences working on a Hilo story-map project, Friday, Dec. 10, noon, via Zoom. The National Science Foundation has recognized a group of students for their research into Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander STEM students. With the prestigious honor of “Top 25 Abstract,” a team of UH Hilo and University of Guam students presented their work virtually at an annual regional conference sponsored by the NSF.
Word of the Week
Join Ka Haka ʻUla O Keʻelikōlani College of Hawaiian Language student Joe Lindsey for a lesson on the Hawaiian word of the week. “Waiākea” is the land division in the district of Hilo where UH Hilo is located. Hua Maka is a weekly video series produced by the college and edited by the UH Hilo Office of University Relations.
