UH Hilo alumna Nahua Guilloz new Maunakea stewardship director
In her new role, Nahua Guilloz will oversee planning, permitting and project review processes, cultural and natural resource stewardship programs, as well as operations at Halepōhaku.
An alumna of the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo is the new director of stewardship at the UH Hilo Center for Maunakea Stewardship.
Former Parker Ranch executive Nahua Guilloz will oversee all stewardship operations relating to UH managed lands on Maunakea.
Her duties at the center include the implementation of the Maunakea Master Plan, Maunakea Comprehensive Management Plan and its subplans. Other responsibilities include overseeing the regulatory requirements governing UH’s master lease for the Maunakea Science Reserve and UH’s subleases with the Maunakea Observatories.
In addition, Guilloz will oversee the permitting and project review processes, cultural and natural resource stewardship programs, as well as operations at Halepōhaku.
“Nahua is highly qualified to lead in our stewardship and outreach efforts and we are excited and honored to have her join our team,” says Greg Chun, executive director of the center.
Guilloz’s previous executive positions involved land management, hunting and visitor operations at Parker Ranch in Waimea. She is currently the board chair for the Hawaiʻi Island Economic Development Board, secretary and board member for New Hope Legacy, and the queen coordinator for the Hawaii High School Rodeo Association.
She is a lifelong resident of Hawaiʻi Island and a graduate of Konawaena High School. Guilloz holds a bachelor’s degree in business from UH Hilo and a masters in business administration-accounting from Hawaiʻi Pacific University.
