Administration
The Center for Mauna Kea Stewardship and the University of Hawai’i are seeking input on the draft of the new Master Plan for Mauna Kea. A summary of the draft master plan is also online.
The annual UH Foundation Fall Calling Campaign is underway. Students are now making calls to confirm or update donor’s contact information and make fundraising appeal to support campus initiatives. Everyone is encouraged to donate and support this campaign. Questions may be directed to Dale Hagadone at the UH Foundation: (808) 956-7357.

Alumna Sophia Romanic is selected by U.S. Department of State for prestigious teaching fellowship.
Community
William H. “Pila” Wilson, Professor of Hawaiian Language, Hawaiian Studies, and Linguistics, has written a brief history of Ke Kula ʻO Nāwahīokalaniʻōpuʻu, UH Hilo’s Hawaiian language medium laboratory school. The essay is written as part of the second annual Hawaiian History Month.

Two options for free testing:
- Students only: Friday, October 1, Noon – 4:00 p.m., University Classroom Building, room 127. PCR testing. Sign-up not necessary; valid picture ID required. Any changes will be sent via UH Announce.
- Employees and students: Clinical Labs statewide. PCR testing. Registration required. Testing by online appointment only; walk-ins not accepted.

Live Q&A to follow. Chef’s Cream Cheese Mousse with Guava Confit, made by Sodexo’s Reid Kusano, will be available for purchase in the Campus Center Dining Room from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Faculty
South Korea has asked Seri Luangphinith to help identify descendants of Korean activists. Prof. Luangphinith has spent years conducting extensive research into the history of Korean immigrants to Hawai‘i Island.
Operations
UH Hilo, in partnership with Safeway, is offering flu shots Wednesday, September 29, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., University Classroom Building, room 127. Flu shots are free with most health insurance plans. Bring health insurance cards. Safeway Pharmacy does not accept Kaiser medical insurance at this time.

Word of the Week
Join Ka Haka ʻUla O Keʻelikōlani College of Hawaiian Language student Kolokea Kauaʻula for a lesson on the Hawaiian word of the week. “Koleke Pāheona a ʻEpekema” is the name of the College of Arts and Sciences at UH Hilo. Hua Maka is a weekly video series produced by the college and edited by UH Hilo Office of University Relations.
