UH Hilo Student Support Services Program has an impressive record of success in retaining and graduating participants. The program is federally funded to provide services to a total of 200 students per year.
This message was sent to the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo community by the TRIO Student Support Services Program, Division of Student Affairs, on Sept. 1.
As staff and faculty, you may often encounter new/transfer/returning students who are struggling to navigate their journey at UH Hilo. Are you aware that the TRIO* Student Support Services Program (SSSP) provides resources and assistance to help students complete their bachelor’s degree at UH Hilo? We are now accepting applications for students who meet income eligibility guidelines (if they receive the Federal Pell grant, this is a good indication they may qualify) and/or neither of their parents have earned a bachelor’s degree. Don’t worry about determining their eligibility, we screen their applications and will provide guidance for additional services if they do not qualify for our program.
SSSP has an impressive record of success in retaining and graduating its participants. Our program is funded to provide services to a total of 200 students per year and we have a few spaces open!
Students benefit from being an SSSP participant since our counselors work closely with faculty and other departments to ensure students receive appropriate support throughout their academic journey. SSSP counselors act as a “one stop shop” where students can receive additional advising that ensures they fulfill major/minor/certificate requirements along with the general education and integrative requirements within the constraints of their financial aid offers when possible.
FREE services include the following:
- Free printing and scanning
- Student workroom for studying and homework
- Academic advising
- Financial Aid advising
- FAFSA & Scholarship assistance
- One on one tutoring
- Study skills development
- Native Hawaiian Scholarship Opportunity
- Equipment Loans
- Freshman & sophomores are eligible to apply for SSSP grant funding
- Career advising & job preparation
- GRE, TEAS, MCAT Test Prep Books & More
- GRE Test Vouchers (Limited)
- Graduate School counseling
- Cultural, College, Personal Finance and Life skills workshops

We look forward to working with you and any students you refer!
