12 UH Hilo pharmacy students accept post-graduate residencies

This year, 12 pharmacy students applying for residencies were matched in the first round.

The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy recently celebrated 12 students on March Match Day, when graduating or recently graduated students applying for post-graduate programs get first-round results from nearly 1,500 participating residency programs at medical and educational institutions across the country. This year, 10 students from the UH Hilo Pharmacy Class of 2021 and two student from the Class of 2020 received the good news.

“Residency match is a highly competitive process and occurs in two rounds, the first in late March and a second in April,” says Carolyn Ma, dean of the college. “This year 12 of the 24 (pharmacy) students applying for residencies were matched in the first round. These impressive results demonstrate the high quality of academics, service and scholarship these students achieved over their four years here.”

Students who received offers for a post-graduate year-one (PGY1) residency include:

  • Nichole Chaffin at Providence St. Peter Hospital, Olympia, WA.
  • Brooke Higa at VA Sierra Nevada Healthcare System, Reno, NV.
  • Taylor Hori, Class of 2020, will be in a year-two residency at Kansas City VA Medical Center, in Kansas City, MO. Currently, she is completing a PGY1 residency at the VA Southern Nevada Health Care System, North Las Vegas, NV.
  • Raha Hosseini at Western Arizona Regional Medical Center, Bullhead City, AZ.
  • Feng Ming Huang at Western Arizona Regional Medical Center, Bullhead City, AZ.
  • Noelle Lovesy at Sharp Memorial Hospital, San Diego, CA.
  • Christian Macaspac at VA Maryland Health Care, Baltimore, MD.
  • Shahrzad Mohammadi, Class of 2020, will be completing a PGY1 at VA Sierra Nevada Healthcare System, Reno, NV.
  • Kimo Okamoto at UH Hilo.
  • Henry Quach at San Francisco VA Health Care System, San Francisco, CA.
  • Tiana L. Ramos at CHI St. Alexius Health Mandan Pharmacy, Mandan, ND.
  • Donald Waddell at Swedish Medical Center, Seattle, WA.
