Covid Updates

Continue to stay informed through the UH Hilo COVID-19 webpage  and UH Hilo Quarantine FAQ page for up-to-date information and advisories, which now includes the Student Fees Information for 2020 Fall Semester. Information can also be found on the UH System COVID-19 page.

People

With kindness and calm, biologist Li Tao adapts classes and labs to online format.

Hawai‘i Public Radio and Prof. of Biology Patrick Hart launch series on Hawai‘i native birds.

Frank Kuo, director of Counseling Services, was selected to present “How to utilize walk-in Single-Session Therapy (SST) with Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) approach to reduce waitlist and maximize effectiveness of treatment” at the Solution Focused Brief Therapy Association Conference, Nov. 14, 8:00 a.m. HST online. He will discuss the outcome feedback of clients, the effectiveness of the approach, and future research suggestions.

Administration

The UH Hilo 2020 Fall Commencement will be held virtually Saturday, Dec. 19, 9:00 a.m. The ceremony will feature congratulatory videos from UH Hilo dignitaries and Kīpaepae ceremonial protocol. A portion of the ceremony will also include a drive-through, pending COVID-19 conditions. See the commencement webpage for updated information.

The UH Hilo Social Media Policy has been officially approved and is now available for all UH Hilo departments, programs, and units (it does not apply to private individual accounts). The policy is designed to help account administrators and managers leverage the power of social media and provides “best practices” to follow when posting. All UH Hilo social media accounts are required to undergo social media training to be considered an official account. Contact the Office of Institutional Marketing for more information.

Nominations for the 2021 Excellence in Teaching Awards are currently being accepted for the Board of Regents Award for Excellence in Teaching, Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence, and the Frances Davis Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching. Nominations deadline is Jan. 31, 2021 and nominations must be submitted electronically via Google Form: 2021 Excellence in Teaching Award Nomination. See here for more information.

The nominations deadline for the 2020 Willard Wilson Award for Distinguished Service to the University and the President’s Award for Excellence in Building and Grounds Maintenance is Friday, Nov. 13, 2020. Email Courtney Domingo at cmnd@hawaii.edu for more information.
