COVID-19 Updates
Continue to stay informed through the UH Hilo COVID-19 webpage for up-to-date information and advisories. Information can also be found on the UH System COVID-19 page.
Budget
A UH Hilo Budget Suggestions for Fiscal Year 2021 form is available for those who wish to provide input on revenue generating ideas or possible budget reductions due to the economic impact of COVID-19.
Long Range Budget Planning Committee meeting notes are now available to help keep faculty and staff informed. Notes begin from the September 18, 2020 meeting. Click here to view notes (log in required).
UH Hilo faculty and staff are invited to a virtual forum on the budget, Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. via Zoom.
Academics
A certificate in indigenous public health is launched. The knowledge gained by students in the new UH Hilo program is particularly valuable during the pandemic given that Micronesians and Samoans have been the largest ethnic cluster of infections in the state.
People
Welcome to Raquel Zane, Student Support for Continued Registration and Graduation, Office of the Registrar. Raquel will be focusing on retention, specifically with juniors and seniors to understand their remaining requirements, and with departments and deans to review student records.
Head athletic trainer Kensei Gibbs steps up to ensure health and safety of Vulcans during pandemic. UH Hilo Athletic Director Patrick Guillen says that while setting up covid protocols has been a team effort, Head Trainer Kensei Gibbs “has really stepped up with so many things” and is worthy of special recognition.
In the age of covid, it’s the IT supervisor and team who are heroes at the pharmacy college. With Reid Kubo’s impressive leadership from the onset of the pandemic, the IT team ensured that access to integral components of the pharmacy program have remained accessible to students.

Campus Center Dining Room and Dining Office’s new hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Supporting Student Success
A new weekly video series for students is launched. StudentLingo is brought to UH Hilo by the Division of Student Affairs. This week’s topic is “Online Courses: Staying Motivated and Disciplined.” To begin viewing, register here for a free account.
Community Outreach
The public is invited to participate and provide feedback in a month-long, virtual open house about the proposed 28-inch educational telescope at Halepōhaku, the mid-level facility on Maunakea.

Deadlines and Applications
Spring 2021 Graduation Priority Deadline is Thursday, Oct. 1.
2021-22 FAFSA will be available Thursday, Oct. 1. For more information, contact the UH Hilo Financial Aid Office.
2021-22 UH Common Scholarship Application will be available Thursday, Oct. 1. Students complete the application to apply for over 100 different scholarships for fall 2021. Email scholars@hawaii.edu with any questions.
