Mandatory COVID-19 safety training program developed for UH employees

The training ensures the entire UH ʻohana has a clear understanding of the requirements for coming to any UH campus such as mandatory use of the daily UH health check-in app as well as mandatory use of face coverings while on campus.

To help prepare for the fall semester, all employees of the 10-campus University of Hawaiʻi System have been asked to view an online COVID-19 safety training program. The training is mandatory and includes employees of the Research Corporation of UH and all student employees.

“The training will provide employees with information to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, particularly in the workplace, and comply with Hawaii Occupational Health and Safety requirements for employee training,” says UH President David Lassner in an email sent today to all UH employees. “The purpose is to inform employees of the hazards of COVID-19 and measures for protection.”

The training requires the viewing of three short informational videos that cover the now mandatory check-in via smart phone app for anyone coming onto a UH campus or off-campus facility, mandatory face coverings on all campuses (inside or outside buildings), the importance of washing hands and social distancing, disinfecting work stations, protocols for supervisors in managing workers, and more.

After viewing the three videos, the employee then takes a 10-question quiz on the information they learned. A score of seven or more correct answers earns the employee COVID-19 Safety Training Certification.

TIPS: Maintain physical distancing of at least 6 feet. Wear a face covering when in public. Wash your hands with soap and water. Stay home when you are sick. Monitor yourself for symptoms.
Basic COVID-19 prevention tips are covered in the training videos.

Lassner urges all employees to take the training as soon as possible.

“You and everyone around you will be safer if you are updated on the latest and most accurate information about COVID-19,” he explains in his email. “We also want to ensure that our entire ʻohana has a clear understanding of the requirements for coming to any UH campus such as mandatory use of the daily UH health check-in app as well as mandatory use of face coverings while on campus. We all share the responsibility to stop the spread of COVID-19 on and off our campuses.”
