Orientation activities are designed for students to start long lasting connections with their peers, faculty, staff, and student support resources to ensure their academic success from day one to graduation.
Orientation activities started this week for students starting the spring 2020 semester at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo. Airport shuttles, trips to Target for supplies, writing and English placement exams, and informational sessions about campus recreation facilities, Title IX regulations, student employment opportunities, and student conduct expectations took place Jan. 8-10.
The informational sessions held on Friday, Jan. 10 are part of “Spring 2020 Connections,” a project headed by the UH Hilo First Year Experience program. FYE supports all new students at UH Hilo to help them build a strong foundation for their academic and social integration into the campus ‘ohana. The goal is for the students to develop long lasting connections with their peers, faculty, staff, and student support resources to ensure their academic success from day one through to graduation.
First day of instruction at UH Hilo is Monday, Jan. 13. More orientation activities will be underway next week from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Campus Center Plaza for new and returning students including an ice cream giveaway on Jan. 13 sponsored by the Student Activities Council, and a daily student resource event Jan. 13-15 sponsored by the Campus and Community Service Office, where students can learn more about departments, organizations, clubs, and programs at UH Hilo.
