UH Hilo joins statewide partnership to buoy marine aquaculture industry
The UH System and state agencies have formed a partnership to raise Hawaiʻi’s global visibility in marine aquaculture and to capitalize on commercial opportunities available worldwide.
The Pacific Aquaculture and Coastal Resources Center, a research and education center of the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo, will participate in a new UH System strategic partnership designed to boost the state’s marine aquaculture industry. Other UH programs taking part are UH Mānoa’s College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources and the UH Sea Grant College Program. These UH programs are all focused on advancing long-term sustainable use and conservation of coastal areas worldwide through aquaculture and resource management for many years.
The programs are now part of a new partnership between UH and state agencies to raise Hawaiʻi’s global visibility in marine aquaculture and to capitalize on commercial opportunities available worldwide. Other members of the partnership are the Hawaiʻi Strategic Development Corporation (HSDC), UH Ventures, LLC, and the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority. The group will focus entrepreneur and investor interest on Hawaiʻi as a location for global aquaculture companies.

The partnership is also receiving guidance and advice from the Hawaiʻi Department of Agriculture, the Agribusiness Development Corporation, Hawaiʻi Technology Development Corporation, and Ulupono Initiative.
