Children looking at seedlings. The 30th annual Earth Day Fair took place on the campus of the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo on April 20. The event is sponsored each year by UH Hilo and Hawaiʻi Community College along with many federal, state, and local county agencies, nonprofit groups, and private organizations. Hundreds of schoolchildren enjoyed this year’s celebration that featured storytellers, face-painting, campus garden tours, papermaking, information-packed displays, hands-on fun with watercolors, microscopes, software, song, dance and more. The children went home with seedlings, other giveaways, and great memories, inspired to do their part to save the Earth.
