The University of Hawai‘i at Hilo announced today the Annual Spring Food Drive will run from Monday, April 9, through Friday, April 27, 2018. The drive is in conjunction with the UH System Annual Food Drive. Donations via UH Hilo will be given to the The Food Basket, Hawai‘i Island’s Food Bank, to help fight hunger on Hawaiʻi Island.
Members of the UH Hilo community are encouraged to bring non-perishable goods to one of several drop off locations on campus:
- Campus Center, rooms 210 or 312.
- The University Concierge desk, Student Services Center, E-101.
- Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Student Services Center, room W-305.
- Mo‘okini Library lobby.
- Performing Arts Center lobby.
Donations can be dropped off during each location’s normal business hours (see their websites for that information).
Monetary donations can also be made in the change buckets in the Campus Center Dining Room or online. Adding “UH Hilo” in the second line of the address ensures the donation is credited to UH Hilo.
Each year The Food Basket serves one in five Hawai‘i residents, providing nutritional assistance to those who are most vulnerable in local communities. With a donation of $10 the food basket can provide as many as 25 meals.
UH Hilo’s goal this year is to collect $500 in monetary donations and 300 pounds of food.
