Three generations of the Segawa family are alumni of University of Hawaiʻi campuses including UH Hilo. This video, produced by the UH Foundation, features members of the Segawa family, each with a unique and inspiring story to tell about the importance of UH and UH Hilo in their lives. The video opens with patriarch Herbert A. Segawa, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and former state representative (1974-1984) talking about his days at UH Hilo beginning in 1948.

The Segawa family has given generously to support scholarships at UH Hilo including the Herbert Segawa Scholarship Endowment to provide scholarships to students pursuing a degree in the College of Business and Economics, and the Kay Kiyoko Segawa Scholarship Endowment to provide scholarships to students who are pursuing a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs.
