Misaki Takabayashi named interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, UH Hilo
Professor Takabayashi is a coral reef molecular ecologist who joined the UH Hilo marine science department in 2005.
The University of Hawaiʻi Board of Regents has approved the appointment of Misaki Takabayashi, PhD, as interim associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo. Takabayashi replaces interim associate dean Susan Brown who has served in the position since January.
Professor Takabayashi is a coral reef molecular ecologist who joined the UH Hilo marine science department in 2005. Since then, she has attracted $19 million in extramural grants as a principal investigator or co-PI, published 17 peer-reviewed papers and an invited book chapter, most of which were co-authored by UH Hilo undergraduate and graduate students.
Takabayashi also is involved in a number of initiatives for broadening participation in science education and research.
“Misaki makes a great addition to the CAS Dean’s office where she will have the responsibility and oversight over undergraduate curriculum matters in the college, including student retention, success, and problems (and) concerns,” says Brown.
