UH Hilo pharmacy students recognized by national pharmacy group
Members of the UH Hilo chapter are active in community wellness programs and health fairs, and have successfully lobbied the state for pharmacy students to receive intern licenses.
A student pharmacist organization at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo was recognized as the “Most Improved Chapter” at the national American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Annual Meeting and Exposition in Baltimore, MD, March 6.
The UH Hilo chapter of the APhA Academy of Student Pharmacists, based at the Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy, competed against chapters from across the country.
“This award says a lot, especially since we are a newer school and we are being compared to schools that have had […] chapters for decades,” says Elizabeth Ackerman, assistant professor of pharmacy and co-adviser for the group last year. “It means that our chapter has made some significant improvements and that the awards committee members were impressed. It’s wonderful.”
Members of the UH Hilo chapter are active in multiple community wellness programs and health fairs, and successfully organized a student-run initiative to help pass a Hawaiʻi state law allowing first-year pharmacy students to receive their intern licenses.
