Kim Schmelz receives PacWest Freshman of the Week award

Kim Schmelz, a University of Hawai‘i at Hilo student-athlete who hails from Rancho Murrieta, Calif., has earned her first PacWest Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week recognition.
In this past week’s two games, the freshman guard averaged 12.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week for the Vulcans. She scored 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting against Cal Baptist University. She had 12 points, eight rebounds and a block in the win over Notre Dame de Namur.
Schmelz leads the Vulcans with 13.1 points per game hitting 74-of-196 shots from the field with 20 3-point field goals. She has also hit 42-of-52 free throw attempts and averages 4.1 rebounds per game. She also has 11 assists and nine steals.
