The Annual KTA Super Stores Vulcan Fever drive kicked off with a $15,800 check presentation on Friday reflecting funds earned in 2015 by the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo athletic programs. An event was held at the KTA Puainako to meet student-athletes from the UH Hilo athletics program. The store gave away 1,000 complimentary game tickets to KTA customers.

In its thirteenth year, Score for Scholarships awards funds to the Vulcans Athletic program based on per-game achievement by its student athletes.

Each volleyball service ace or basketball three-pointer generates $50 while each soccer goal earns $100. In baseball and softball, each double earns $50, a triple is $75, a homerun is $100 and each strikeout a pitcher records is $25.

The month-long drive encourages customers to purchase specially labeled products from participating brands. The funds raised support the KTA Score for Scholarships Endowment Fund, which goes toward offsetting costs for tuition, room, board, books and other academic support services for student athletes. Over $200,000 has been raised so far.
