Current Situation: Current activity does not pose an immediate threat to area communities but we remain vigilant in tracking the flow. We will communicate with you if there are any new developments that may impact our people in Puna.

Resources: Our UH for Puna website has information about UH plans should the lava flow cut off access to Hilo.

Classes: If you have concerns about access to courses or work for this semester, please contact your instructors, department heads or supervisors. UH will work with students and employees on an individual basis.

Stay Informed and Remain Prepared: We recommend you stay informed and remain prepared for lava flow activity that may impact you. Visit the County Civil Defense website and follow any new instructions. Please also visit the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory website for flow updates.

We wish you a safe and Happy New Year.
