This workshop will explore the fun process of making comics and illustrations. The field is very broad in scope and each student will receive personal instruction tailored to their interests. Students will also learn more about the possible career opportunities in publishing, advertising, and film production that exist for talented artists. Ages 12-15. Meet Chris M. Butzer C.M. Butzer is an illustrator, printmaker, and cartoonist who has recently moved to Hilo from New York City. His illustrations have been in numerous books, publications, and have been used on product designs. He wrote and drew “Gettysburg: The Graphic Novel” for Harper Collins which was featured in the Top Ten Non-fiction Graphic Novels of 2009 by the American Library Association. He is currently illustrating a graphic novel about the naturalist E.O.Wilson for Island Press. He is an avid printmaker,and has exhibited his handmade prints, books, comics, and zines at curated art festivals and shows across the continental United States and Canada. He taught how to make comics at the School of Visual Arts in New York for six years.
