Learn about a variety of flutes, exploring the transformation of their role in society from Japanese court music to their use in modern day movies and music.
Following the presentation, there will be a short hands-on introduction for those interested in learning to play the shakuhachi. A beginning level workshop will follow for those who would like to develop their skill and technique.
Marco Lienhard studied the shakuhachi under Master Katsuya Yokoyama and became a virtuoso solo artist. He also became a professional taiko player, and founded the group Taikoza in 1995. Lienhard now makes his home in New York and tours internationally.
