Steps Necessary to Receive a Financial Aid Award
To be considered for financial aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You are strongly encouraged to complete the FAFSA via the Internet at www.fafsa.gov. On the FAFSA, you should list the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo, code number 001611, as one of the schools to receive your application information. UH Hilo will receive your data electronically from the United States Department of Education and will then be able to calculate your eligibility. The priority filing date (submitted via the Web to the federal processor) is March 1. Remember, grant funds are limited and expended quickly. File on time to ensure full consideration. Also, you must be accepted for admission to the University as a classified student before a financial aid award can be issued.
Upon receipt of the FAFSA results in the Financial Aid Office, a Financial Aid Award notice will be sent to you. You must review the award via the MyUH Portal and accept or decline the award within three weeks of the date of the notice. In addition, other documents may be requested from you at this time.
