UH Hilo Happenings (September 30-October 6, 2018)

UH Hilo Happenings (September 30-October 6, 2018)

Now is the time to begin making moves to finance your education next year. The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), which is the application to apply for financial aid to pay for school in 2019-2020, will open up on Monday, October 1. Also opening up on Monday, October 1 is the UH Common Scholarship Application, which allows you to register for over 100 different scholarship for next school year. The sooner you fill out your applications, the better chance you have at scholarships and funds that can help you pay for college. For direct links to these opportunities, scroll down to “Important Dates”.

It’s the 7th week of classes and students may begin feeling the pressure of stress and responsibilities, so we’re pleased to share a few tips from Student Health and Wellness on how to manage stress. Eat healthy foods regularly; take study breaks to spend time doing things you enjoy; stay well hydrated; study with fellow students; get enough rest; exercise moderately; and take a few conscious breaths. You can also access Press Pause to help you with anxiety, stress, sadness, and anger. Health psychologist Kelly McGonigal’s TEDTalk, ‘How To Make Stress Your Friend’ may also be helpful for you.

Looking for a mobile way to stay connected? One of the best ways to stay in touch with what is happening on the UH Hilo campus, including buying & selling, lost & found, housing, ride sharing, and more, is to download the UH Hilo app from the App Store or Google Play. Visit http://uhhilo.campusapp.com for more information.

UH Hilo Happenings is a weekly digest or collection of events and announcements, sent out by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs every Sunday, at 6:00 am, so you’re aware of what’s coming up this week. We include important dates and deadlines, opportunities to get involved, and announcements that may be helpful to you as a student.
