Fee waivers available for professional development workshops

The Chancellor’s Professional Development Fund is offering fee waivers for four workshops in Hilo.

  • Session 1: “My Stress-Filled Life: Better Choices.”
    DATE: October 14, 2015
    TIME: 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
    PLACE: University Classroom Building, room 112, University of Hawaii at Hilo.
    In this first session, the focus is on understanding our stress-filled lives. Through questions, exercises, and real-life examples, we explore key ways stress directly affects us. Practical tools and tips, such as the “Top 7 Things That Happen When I’m Not At My Best,” are introduced to help us be our best and improve our daily choices, especially under difficult or stressful circumstances.
  • Session 2: “My Relationships Under Stress: Live and Love Better.”
    DATE: October 21, 2015
    TIME: 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
    PLACE: University Classroom Building, room 112, UH Hilo.
    In this second session, we focus on understanding how stress affects our relationships. Through questions, exercises, and real-life examples, we explore key ways stress can affect our attitudes, behaviors and standards currently influencing our relationships and overall quality of life. Practical tools and tips, such as “The Iceberg of Stress and Frustration,” are introduced to help us be our best by enhancing our daily communications and interactions with others, especially under difficult or stressful circumstances.
  • Session 3: “At My Best: Anything Is Possible.”
    DATE: October 28, 2015
    TIME: 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
    PLACE: University Classroom Building, room 112, UH Hilo.
    In this third session, we focus on understanding how a healthy approach to stress greatly enhances our lives and our ability to address past, present and future challenges and changes. Through questions, exercises, and real-life examples, we discover better ways to approach situations likely to trigger anger or unhealthy stress in us. We enhance our skills to transform adversity to opportunity in these same situations to benefit everyone around us. We reinforce more sustainable and positive impacts with our words and actions. Practical tools and tips, such as “The Pause,” are introduced to bring out our best in the choices we make to help us live the life we’re meant to and build relationships that fill us with greater joy.

“Communication Skills for Women: How Women Can Find Solutions for Barriers to Advancement in the Workplace.”

PLACE: Edith Kanakaole Hall, room 102, UH Hilo.

For women who are looking for more professional development opportunities and overall job satisfaction, this workshop will help you to identify where the barriers are and what you can do about them.
