Donors, student scholarship recipients, and University of Hawai‘i at Hilo faculty and staff recently gathered in the Campus Center dining room to celebrate the impact of scholarships, and to honor the generous donors who are supporting students’ success.
During the program, UH Hilo Chancellor Donald Straney and UH Foundation Director of Scholarship Development Malia Peters spoke passionately about the transformational impact scholarships make in the lives of students and their families. Guests also heard from donor Audrey Furukawa (former executive assistant to the chancellor) who upon retirement from UH Hilo, joined family and friends in establishing a scholarship endowment supporting study abroad opportunities for UH Hilo students.
Students Sabrina and Samantha Hanabaga shared their personal stories about how scholarships have helped them. The twins recited the 3 B’s – “Believe, Balance and Become” as integral steps in achieving success in their academic careers and in life.
