Hilo was selected as one of 20 towns in the country to receive a paint makeover from Benjamin Moore paint company.

Chancellor Donald Straney wanted to share with his blog readers the great news that Hilo has been chosen as one of 20 towns in the country to have selected downtown buildings painted as part of Benjamin Moore paint company’s “Main Street Matters” competition.
“Hilo was selected as one of 20 towns to receive a paint makeover from Benjamin Moore Paints!” writes Miles Yoshioka of the Hawai‘i Island Chamber of Commerce in an email to Chancellor Straney this morning. “Congratulations to Lee Wilson and the HPM folks for leading the charge, Alice Moon of the Hilo Downtown Improvement Association, and everyone else for giving support and sending in your votes!”
Message from Benjamin Moore:
Congratulations to all of the towns who were a part of Main Street Matters! From the outpouring of excitement, it’s clear that each of the Main Streets on the voting map embodies the spirit of this effort. We’ve really enjoyed getting to know all of the communities, and hope that being a part of this program has reinvigorated excitement for supporting local businesses.
Your passion for Main Street Matters has been so enthusiastic that we’ve decided to make this our inaugural year. So even if your town didn’t make the final list this year, we hope to hear from you in 2014.
And now, without further ado, we’re excited to announce the final list of towns to be revitalized.
