A 6–9-page (double-spaced) paper within which a student reflects on the topics covered in the course.  Students are required to submit the essay with either footnotes Chicago or MLA (which includes a Work Cited Page).

Data (measurement of the competency)

Three readers from the department read fifteen (n = 15) papers. Students averaged 2.95/4 in Document Conventions, 3.66 in Appropriateness of Sources, 3.43 in Evaluating Sources, and 3.68 in Integrating Sources. These scores show an improvement from the 2015-2016 data.

Readers noted the most frequent problem with information literacy in this set of papers was students not citing sources for their claims. Nevertheless, though not every student did high quality work, on the whole the students showed impressive skills at choosing credible sources and evaluating the merits of their claims.
