Process of Core Competency Assessment:
Course (400- level)
The Performing Arts program requires a “capstone” course which is usually run as a 499 independent studies and is designed per each student. In Fall of 2018, one of the assignments required for a graduating senior was a review of acting methodology. The student turned in a 20-page MLA formatted research paper that appeared to incorporate secondary sources, some academic and others performative, into an analysis of different methods of acting (i.e. improvisation, representational styles, etc.)

The number of papers is too small (n = 1) to be statistically meaningful.

The department is currently revisiting the 499 Independent Studies as a capstone and will be drafting a set assignment that integrates the core competencies into the final student project. This will help ensure that all student work will become assessable using the GE rubrics.
