MARE 480 Senior Internship


Student are required to submit a 5-7 page paper which sums up their internship experience. Papers are to be written in APA format or Marine Ecology Progress Series (MEPS) format with the following required sections:  Abstract, Literature Review, Methodology, Discussion, Conclusion, and References.

Two outside readers external to the department read eight (n = 8) papers. Averages for each category are as follows:  Document Conventions (3.43), Appropriateness of Sources (3.31), Evaluating Sources (3.06), and Integrating Sources (2.56). The average for the last category appears to be incumbent on the lack of agreement between the two readers; however, the department may wish to consider including more practice for students in synthesizing research into their own prose.
