Have formal Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) or Student Learning Outcomes (SLOS) been developed?
Yes
Published where? (website)
Do PLOs include or imply link to Core Competency? (AY 2017-2018: Written Communication)?
Upon graduating with a B.A. degree in Economics, students should be able to: Apply Economic theory to practical problems [and] Write effectively and confidently.
Process of Core Competency Assessment:
Course (400- level
ECON 361 International Finance
Assignment
Students will select a country for which you will monitor throughout the semester relevant economic and political developments.
Type of Student Artifact
The paper for this assessment will be a Policy Memorandum on early warnings and recommendations (7 to 10 pages). The paper will be submitted to the UHH Assessment Team for grading.
Rubric or other instrument
GE Rubric for Written Communication
Data (measurement of the competency)
The benchmarks are 4 (Advanced), 3 (Competent), 2 (Emerging), and 1 (Beginning). Scores below 3 (Competent) are not acceptable for economics majors close to graduation. Unfortunately, only one of the eleven papers had an average score of 3 or higher.
Action Taken in Response to the Data (What will you do in response to the Findings?)
The Assessment Committee recommends making two courses in the core, BUS 290 (Critical Thinking) and MGT 300 (Mgt, Orgs & Human Behavior) permanently Writing Intensive. Note that the BA in Economics no longer exists; instead we have an Economics track in the BBA, so from now on we will only be assessing for the BBA.
