Data (measurement of the competency)

Two readers from the department undertook evaluations of the student presentations. Both evaluators noted students did generally well in their presentations; however, evaluators noted that while students were well versed in their content, there were some problems with delivery—pacing, lack of eye contact, monotone voice (lack of engagement), too many pauses and/or lack of flow.  Some students also seemed inclined to read directly from written script; some also lacked the ability to spontaneously speak or engage. As a result some students came across as not having much confidence.

Evaluator Tabular Data

Action Taken in Response to the Data (What will you do in response to the Findings?)

As averages indicated that students may need additional preparation for presentations, the instructor will be modifying the soft skills module in the second capstone course to include additional materials (including Video Arts) on how to effectively present academic research.
