1. Meeting called to order at 2:02 pm.

2. Approval of minutes from previous meeting on December 6, 2019

3. Chair Announcements

None.

4. Agenda Items/Discussion:

  • 4.A. Assessment Update- Quantitative Reasoning Assessment
    • Scott received Quantitative Reasoning Assessments from everyone (MAT, MED, DNP, HRMA, TCBES, COUNS PSYCH, PHARM and KHUOK). Next up is Information Literacy.
  • 4.B. Change of Registration Form
    • Students need to fill out a change of registration form in order to add or drop a class after the second Tuesday following the beginning of the semester. The change of registration form will be updated so it is clear to Graduate Students that they need the Graduate Council Chair to sign off instead of the College Dean.
  • 4.C. KHUOK Affiliate Faculty Approvals
    • Graduate council will look over CVs and vote by 2/14/2020 via email. The following Affiliate Faculty members were voted on and approved via email:

  • 4.D. Counseling Psychology Student Exception- Commencement
    • Student is opting to do thesis and is asking the Graduate Council to approve exception to walk in the Spring 2020 commencement even though she might not finish in time. Table to next meeting when Bryan returns.

  • 4.E. WICHE Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP) Tuition Update
    • President Lassner approved 150% of resident rate. Graduate Division will implement Fall 2021. Program chairs are asked to go back and talk it over with their deans and programs and send an email to Shelby if they will be participating. Grad Division will create a main WRGP page on the Grad Division website, but programs should also add wording in on their websites and/or fliers starting with the Fall 2021 recruitment. We will do a one time opt in for current graduate students for Fall 2021 in the Spring of 2021. Grad Division office will coordinate this.
  • 4.F. Ambassador Mary Olmstead Fellowship
    • Graduate Council will serve as the review committee and selecting body for this fellowship. Originally run under the UH Common Scholarship Application and now will run under UH Manoa’s own STAR scholarship system. Shelby confirmed with Manoa that the student must have level of Graduate, Professional students not eligible. Shelby will write up the process/procedures for this and the Graduate Council will vote on the procedures at March meeting.
  • 4.G. Student Athlete Z-Exemption for Resident Tuition
    • Admissions needs clarification if Z-Exemption works for the Graduate Level. Z exemption is for special situation athletes where they are only charged the Resident tuition rate and athletics fronts the difference in tuition. Graduate council has never encountered this situation and advises them to follow up with VCAA Ken Hon.
    • Note: Shelby followed up with Admissions and athletics will manage this exemption, nothing for us to do on the Grad Division side.

5. Other Business

  • 5.a. Should Cheri vote?
    • Need to amend the charter to change two position titles, “Graduate Division and Articulation Specialist” and “Curriculum and Catalog Coordinator” to match Shelby and Cheri’s position titles. Graduate Council to review the charter to see if they have any other edits that should be made for the March meeting. Shelby to put Charter in the shared drive.
