Elviana "Alexa" Hadiyanto: A Success Story from UH Hilo's College of Business and Economics

A Standout Student and Leader
Elviana “Alexa” Hadiyanto, a 2020 graduate of the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo, excelled at the College of Business and Economics, where she earned her Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Management. Associate Professor Todd Inouye, who taught her in the strategic management capstone course, recalls her exceptional work ethic, leadership, and initiative. “Alumni like Alexa show that UH Hilo challenges students to reach their highest level of academic achievement,” says Inouye.
Resilience Through Challenges
During her time at UH Hilo, Alexa worked at the Grand Naniloa Resort while completing her studies. However, the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in her layoff in 2020. Rather than being discouraged, she shifted careers, becoming a legal secretary at Nakamoto, Okamoto & Yamamoto. This new role ignited her passion for law, setting her on the path to becoming an attorney.
A Strong Foundation at UH Hilo
UH Hilo’s College of Business and Economics provided Alexa with a solid foundation for her career transitions. The college’s focus on developing confident and competent business leaders equipped her with the skills needed to pursue new opportunities. Alexa’s journey is proof of the college’s ability to prepare students for success in various career fields.
Moving Forward with Purpose
Now in her first year at the University of San Diego School of Law, Alexa continues to thrive. She’s a Faculty Honor Scholarship recipient and is involved in organizations like the International Law Society and the Asian Pacific American Law Society Association. Inspired by her experience as an immigrant from Indonesia, she aims to help others navigate immigration law and achieve citizenship.
