UH Hilo, Edwin H. Mookini Library, general funds, full-time, tenure-track position, to begin approximately January 2014, pending position clearance and availability of funds.


Reporting to the Head of Public Services, this position will be responsible for a wide range of academic library public service duties with emphasis on access services, including 1) providing professional expertise, policy development, and continuous improvement in the areas of circulation, course reserves, interlibrary loan, building operations, and stacks management; 2) working with Information Technology operations in the library, on campus and at other University of Hawaiʻi campuses in order to implement service improvements; 3) monitoring the library’s performance in access services and using data to inform improvement efforts; 4) delivering reference service to patrons; 5) participating in library instruction activities; 6) performing assigned collection development responsibilities; 7) serving on library, university and UH System committees; and 8) performing other duties as assigned. Evening and weekend work may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in library or information science from a program accredited by the American Library Association or international equivalent.

Desirable Qualifications

Familiarity with current technologies and operations as applied
to library access services, including experience with an integrated library management system; working knowledge of ILLiad; experience providing reference in an academic library; familiarity with sources of information relating to Hawaiʻi; experience providing academic library instruction sessions; excellent interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; proven and successful ability to work effectively with colleagues in a team-based environment; a strong graduate and undergraduate academic record; experience working effectively with patrons and resolving patron issues; demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff and colleagues in a multicultural environment.

Pay Range

Minimum annual salary $50,004
