Outgoing NSE'ers Senior Alert!

UH Hilo Home > Student Affairs > National Student Exchange

For students planning to graduate while on exchange:

  • Graduation in absentia: you must obtain a Graduation in Absentia form from the dean's office of your college. Approval of your classes prior to exchange at the host school is required.
  • Graduation application process: submit your graduation application to the UH Hilo Records Office in a timely manner. And make sure that all steps are completed for graduation before you leave on exchange.
  • Transcripts: In order to graduate, your grades from the host school must be received by a deadline set by the UH Hilo Records Office. Find out what that deadline is and when transcripts will be sent from your host school. For example, if the transcript is received after the UH Hilo Records Office cutoff date for Spring, your graduation may have to be delayed to Summer.
  • Writing intensive and Asian Pacific requirements: It is strongly recommended that you have met your UH Hilo writing intensive and Asian Pacific requirements prior to exchange. If you have not and you are trying to do so with classes to be taken at the host school, check with your UH Hilo advisor and Dean's Office of your college.
  • Marching in commencement: Host or home campus? You may be able to march at commencement at either the host school or UH Hilo. Check with the person/office in charge of graduation/commencement at both campuses to find out what's involved. At UH Hilo it's the Records/Registrar's Office.
