Incoming exchange students

The Spring 2012 beginning registration date for new, incoming NSE'ers is (TBA).

Unless you are a student on exchange continuing from the Fall to Spring semester, do "not" refer to registration dates posted on "MyUH Portal", as these pertain to current UH Hilo students only.

Prior to Arrival

Please do your "homework" about the campus and community you are coming to, and remember that an exchange is not just a "visit"--Hilo will be your temporary home!

  1. Follow the directions on the Admissions and Registration Information page to be admitted to UH Hilo and sign up for classes. *[Canadian Students see note below.]
  2. Read the NSE Housing Information page for details on how to make living arrangements.
  3. Read the Mandatory Health Requirements webpage. A "hold" may be placed in your UH Hilo student record if you do not comply with the immunization requirements.
  4. Read the Introductory Information page for information about living in Hilo such as employment, living expenses, banking, transportation, and culture.
  5. Check the Important Dates page occasionally for upcoming events and important deadlines.
  6. International students should communicate with their home school's International Offices regarding maintaining immigration status.
  7. Notify the home and host campus NSE offices of any contact info changes.
  8. Take the online quiz (link is on "The Exchange Process" page) and qualify for a prize!

*Note: In addition to step "1" above, Canadian F-1 students must complete an online UH Hilo International Application, and e-mail attachment of the Supplementary Info form, along with a copy of their college transcript and passport copy to <pgrossma@hawaii.edu> OR fax to Admissions (Fax # 808-933-0861). A copy of your Financial Sponsor's Bank Statement, OR a Bank Verification must also be submitted.

Cost of Attendance for the 2011-12 Exchange Year

Plan A On Campus Total: $16,068, including tuition and fees of $5,944 plus estimated room & board, books & supplies, transportation, and miscellaneous expenses. The total for a single semester is $8,034.

Plan A Off Campus Total: $19,964, including tuition & fees of $5,944 plus estimated room & board, books & supplies, transportation, and miscellaneous expenses. The total for a single semester is $9,982.

  1. Ensure you have no outstanding obligations to UH Hilo (unpaid parking tickets/library fines/other fees, etc).
  2. Obtain your "semester wrap-up packet" from the UH Hilo NSE office. One transcript can be furnished to your home campus at no charge. The fee for this one transcript can be waived if you bring the form to the UH Hilo NSE coordinator to sign. For additional copies, you will be charged a processing fee.
