Welcome to UH Hilo
Advising Guide for Students
"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." - Lao Tzu
Now that you know an undergraduate student at UH Hilo, you're expected to understand how academic advising is organized. You'll also need to understand additional information relating to academic requirements, so go through this guide prior to meeting with a faculty advisor in your major during orientation week.
Think of this online advising guide as your foundational lessons in "fishing". You may not understand every single thing the first time you go through the guide, but you can always come back and go through areas again.
This online guide is about 30-35 minutes long.

- Your Advising Kuleana (Responsibilities)
- The Basics (Colleges, Academic Calendar, Credits, Class Standing, Majors/Minors/Certificates)

- Integrative and Graduation Requirements
- Major Requirements
- STAR, the online degree audit
- Before you can register, you'll need to...
