Know your General Education Requirements!
General Education requirements apply to all baccalaureate degrees at UH Hilo.
Typically, first-time students create their schedules based upon general education requirements. Also students who are transferring in to UH Hilo without an AA degree will need to complete the UH Hilo General Education requirements, so it's in your best interest to take some time now and go through these requirements in detail.
2012-2013 General Education Requirements
Attention Transfer Students!
- If you have have earned a transferable Associate of Arts degree from an institution accredited by a U.S. regional accreditation agency, you will be exempted from the General Education requirements, unless specific course requirements are needed for a given major or specialty. Your AA degree must have been completed prior to initial matriculation to UH Hilo.
- Transfer students from within the University of Hawai'i System who have 6 credits or fewer to complete their UH community college AA degree may transfer to UH Hilo and be exempted from the UH Hilo General Education, providing the coursework for the AA degree is completed in the first semester at UH Hilo and the student has applied to graduate with the AA during that same semester.
- Be sure your AA degree is indeed an Associate of Arts degree. AS (Associate of Science), AAS (Associate of Arts and Sciences), and other degrees, are not accepted to waive General Education requirements.
- Contact the Admissions Office if you have questions about the transfer status of your AA degree.
