IMUA FitnessCampus Recreation Department provides numerous opportunities for patrons to meet their fitness goals. Qualified staff and resources are available for group and personal instruction in a wide variety of classes such as Zumba, Yoga, Circuit Training and Spin. Non-credit activities are also available to provide educational experiences for a wide variety of interests. The activities offered include Dance, Martial Arts, Self-Defense, and Fitness Training classes. All Imua classes are free to members!

Spring 2016 IMUA Fitness Schedule!

Class Descriptions:

Abs and Core - This class is designed to help strengthen your stomach and back muscles. You will work all the muscles in your core without getting bored! Come and try this class and get the six-pack you’ve always dreamed of! 

Boot Camp - Have you ever wanted to get a good workout while having fun too?  Well, this class is for you!  You will learn different ways to do cardio exercises using interval and circuit training exercises.  You will also learn various ways to train your abdominals, helping you to develop a stronger and a leaner core. 

Butts and Gutts - You will tighten, tone and lift areas of the lower body and stomach region with this class. Workouts for this class includes using various equipment such as step benches, kettlebells, body weight, free weights and other fun exercises.

Dance Fitness - Break a sweat while learning a blood pumping funk jazz routine. This class fuses dance technique and exercise that makes it fun whether you are at a beginner or an advanced dance level!

Fit as a Fighter - Ideal for getting in shape, or supplementing your martial arts training. This class incorporates training in boxing and kickboxing.  You will build your strength, speed, stamina, resistance, and balance from this class.  There are also drill and boxing training so be sure to bring your MMA gloves, if you have some.

H.I.I.T. Training - This (High Intensity Interval Training) class incorporates the use of various weights and fitness equipment that will challenge you to train different parts of your body everytime you attend class. You will learn something new each time you step into the aerobic room while getting a total body workout!

INT Dance (RISO)* - This is a student run hip hop dance club/organization that is dedicated to teaching others how to dance and perform.  You will be exposed to many styles of dance and even have the chance to perform on stage!

IMUA Fit - If you enjoy working out outdoors then this class is for you! Similar to Cross Fit, this class is designed to teach you how to use various fitness equipment and gear such as bumper plates, rings, medicine balls, squat stands, pull-up bar, etc. You will learn something new in each class and it is designed to improve your physical well-being and help strengten you cardiovascular endurance and muscle strength. (Note: Please meet outside under the tent area).

Jujitsu (RISO)* - This is a student run club. Danzan Ryu is the method of Jujitsu that you will learn and it is one of the most comprehensive and perfected styles of martial arts in the United States. It includes all the elements of a superior self-defense system as well as a complete system of resuscitation and healing arts.

Spin and Core - Want to burn about 300-450 calories in an hour while toning your quadriceps, outer thigh muscles, and stomach?  Then this class is for you! You will learn how to control and set your own pace on our world class bikes. You will also learn various core strengthing exercises that will help you move and function in your everyday life and help decrease injuries.

Spin-n-Sculpt - Maximize your body's fat burning potential by adding strength training and cardio exercise to your routine. This class will be sure to keep you moving where you will be doing a series of exercises on the bike and some strength exercises on the floor in 5-10 min. increments. Some of these strength exercises includes squats, lundges, push-ups, planks, etc. You will also be able to tone, tighten and improve your cardiovascular endurance in an hour.

Sunrise Yoga - Come and enjoy and awaken your experience with this class. You will learn principles from Ashtanga Yoga which will help you to work on your breathing and posture. You will also learn a series of various yoga poses that may help to improve your circulation and bring a sense of calmness to your body.

S.W.E.A.T.- Strength, Weights, Endurance, and Athletic Training. This class say it all and it incorporates all four of these categories. You will learn how to get into shape by using your own body weight and resistance as well as the use of various weight and cardio techniques. Come prepare as you will be pushed to your limits while having fun too!

Total Body Conditioning - This class will maximize your body's fat burning potential by adding strength training and endurance exercises to your routine with the use of your very own body weight and various cardio exercises. You will also learn how to use various fitness equipment such as dumbbells, kettlebells, medicine and stability balls while burning calories and building lean muscle mass in just under an hour!

Vinyasa Flow Yoga -This class provides a great balance between developing strength and flexibility while using the breath to calm and center the mind.  You will also learn various yoga poses that will help with your body posture and alignment.

Yoga - This class integrates various yoga teaching from Hatha, Iyengar, and Astranga yoga.  It will help you to strengthen your body while also being able to calm your mind, body and spirit.

Zumba® - Fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program.  You will love this exhilarating hour of caloric-burning, body-energizing, awe-inspiring movements combined with core strengthening exercises.

Please note: All participants MUST sign the risk and release form located at the weight room desk, or in the Campus Rec office, before attending any of the above IMUA fitness classes. This schedule is subject to change at any time. Cancelled classes will be posted outside of the studio.
