IMUA FitnessCampus Recreation Department provides numerous opportunities for patrons to meet their fitness goals. Qualified staff and resources are available for group and personal instruction in a wide variety of classes such as Yoga, Circuit Training, Hula and Spin. Non-credit activities are also available to provide educational experiences for a wide variety of interests. The activities offered include Dance, Martial Arts, Self-Defense, and Fitness Training classes. All Imua classes are free to members.

Please note: All participants MUST sign the risk and release form located at the weight room desk, or in the Campus Rec office, before attending any of the above IMUA fitness classes. This schedule is subject to change at any time. Cancelled classes will be posted outside of the studio.

Class Descriptions:

Aikido* (RISO) - Aikido is performed by blending with the motion of the attacker and redirecting the force of the attack rather than opposing it head-on. This requires very little physical strength, as the aikidōka (aikido practitioner) "leads" the attacker's momentum using entering and turning movements. The techniques are completed with various throws or joint locks.

Abs & Core – This class incorporate 45 minutes of just abs and back exercises.  You will work all the muscles in your core without getting bored! Come and try this class and get the six-pack you’ve always wanted and dreamed of.

Cardio Tahitian Come and learn the beauty and grace of Hula and the energetic rhythmic movements of Tahiti.  This class will teach you various basic moves utilizing your core muscles and you will also burn calories while having fun too!

Fit as a Fighter - Ever wanted to improve your conditioning skills? Well, here is your chance! This class is designed for anyone wanting to get into better shape. You will be taken through a series of conditioning drills that will work on improving your stamina, strength, coordination, and agility. Note: There is no physical contact or grappling in this class.

Fun Interval Training (F.I.T.)- Maximize your body’s fat burning potential by adding strength training exercises to your routine.  This class utilizes dumbbells, resistance bands, kettle bells, medicine and stability balls, followed by abdominal exercises.  Your body will be burning calories; building lean muscles mass and overall get a total body workout in just under a hour. 

Hip Hop— This class will bring out the dancer in you where you will learn various dance moves to the latest top hit music songs while getting a great workout too.

Hula for Advance– If you already took a Hula Class or interested in learning new Hula moves then this the class for you!  This class will teach you advanced hula moves that will allow you to dance to three to four songs by the end of the semester.  Come and enjoy a different insight into what Hawai’i is all about while getting a good workout!

Hula for Beginners – Come and experience the beauty and grace of what Hula is all about.  This class will teach you the basics of Hula that will allow you to look and feel like a dancer.  Each dance is built upon the previous routine and at the end of the semester every student should be able to dance a full song.

I.N.T. Dance Fitness* (RISO) – Lead by our university's very own dance squad, I.N.T, this class is a fun and exciting way to stay in shape, get some extra cardio and strength training, and have an amazing time doing it. You'll learn some modern hiphop and contemporary moves as well as workout in a fun environment.

Judo* (RISO) - Come and test your stamina, strength coordination and endurance through the art of Judo. You will learn self-discipline, self-control, and it can help to improve your self-confidence.

Jujitsu* (RISO)Danzan Ryu is one of the most comprehensive and perfected styles of martial arts in the United States.  It includes all the elements of a superior self-defense system as well as a complete system of resuscitation and healing arts. 

Spin and Abs Come and experience 40minutes of cardio workout on the spin bikes followed by 15 minutes of a variety of abdominal exercises.  This class will be sure to give you a total body workout while having fun too!

Step-n-Sculpt This class is designed to give you an all-around body sculpting experience in a fun and energetic way. The class will use equipment, resources, and techniques that work with your body to keep you healthy and strong.

Sunrise Yoga Start your day with an invigorating, energizing, and relaxing class of yoga that will incorporate various yoga poses such as forward bends, sit and reach, planks and many more challenging and unique poses and positions.

Total Body Conditioning– Maximize your body’s fat burning potential by adding strength training exercises to your routine. This class utilizes dumbbells, resistance bands, kettle bells, and medicine and stability balls, followed by abdominal exercises. Your body will be burning calories, building lean muscle mass and it will give you a great total body workout in just under an hour.

Vinyasa Flow Yoga – This class is open to all levels. Come and enjoy the upbeat pace of this class. During this class students will flow through Sun Salutations, standing and sitting poses, balancing asanas, back bend stretches and much more. Modifications to asanas are offered to accommodate various abilities.

Yoga – This class integrates various yoga teaches such as Hatha, Iyengar, and Astranga yoga. It will help you to strengthen your body while also being able to calm your mind, body and spirit.

Zumba®: Fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program. You will love this exhilarating hour of caloric-burning, body-energizing, awe-inspiring movements combined with core strengthening exercises.
