IMUA FitnessCampus Recreation Department provides numerous opportunities for patrons to meet their fitness goals. Qualified staff and resources are available for group and personal instruction in a wide variety of classes such as Yoga, Circuit Training, Hula and Spin. Non-credit activities are also available to provide educational experiences for a wide variety of interests. The activities offered include Dance, Martial Arts, Self-Defense, and Fitness Training classes. All Imua classes are free to members.

Class Descriptions:

Aikido (RISO) - Aikido is performed by blending with the motion of the attacker and redirecting the force of the attack rather than opposing it head-on. This requires very little physical strength, as the aikidōka (aikido practitioner) "leads" the attacker's momentum using entering and turning movements. The techniques are completed with various throws or joint locks.

Abs and Core - 45 minutes of just abs! Think 45 minutes is too long? Don’t worry, it’s really not! With a variety of motions and exercises, you will work all the muscles in your core without getting bored! Come and try this class and get the six-pack you’ve always dreamed!

Boot Camp— Have you ever wanted to get a good workout while having fun too? Well, this class is for you! You will learn different ways to do cardio exercises using interval and circuit training exercises. You will also learn various ways to train your abdominals, helping you to develop a stronger and a more leaner core.

Cardio Tahitian- Come and learn the beauty and grace of the Hula and the energetic rhythmic movements of Tahiti. This class will teach you various basic moves utilizing your core muscles. You will also burn calories while having fun too!

Fit as a Fighter - Ideal for getting in shape, or supplementing your martial arts training. This class incorporates training in boxing and kickboxing. You will build your strength, speed, stamina, resistance, and balance from this class. There are also drills and boxing training so be sure to bring your own MMA gloves, if you have some.

Fun Interval Training (F.I.T.) - Maximize your body's fat burning potential by adding strength training exercises to your routine. This class utilizes dumbbells, resistance bands, kettle bells, medicine and stability balls, followed by abdominal exercises. Your body will be burning calories, building lean muscle mass and overall get a total body workout in just under an hour.

Hula for Beginners
– Come and experience the beauty and grace of what Hula is all about. This class will teach you the basics of Hula that will allows you to look and feel like a dancer. Each dance is built upon the previous routine and at the end of the semester every student should be able to dance to a full song.

Hula for Advance – If you already took a Hula Class or are interested in learning new Hula moves then this is the class for you. This class will teach you advanced hula moves that will allow you to dance to three to four songs by the end of the semester. Come and enjoy a different insight into what Hawai`i is all about while getting a good workout.

IMUA Fit — If you’re looking to shed some pounds and challenge yourself, this is the class for you. This class includes constant varied functional movements that is performed at high intensity. Some of these exercises includes deadlifts, clean, squat, snatch, pull ups, dips, climbs, and sit ups. (Note: Please be sure to meet by the punching bag area).

INT Dance Squad (RISO)- Lead by the university’s very own dance squad! INT is dedicated to teaching others how to dance and perform while getting some extra cardio and strength training workout. You will learn both modern and contemporary dance moves and even have the chance to perform on stage!

Jujitsu (RISO)- Danzan Ryu is one of the most comprehensive and perfected styles of martial arts in the United States. It includes all the elements of a superior self-defense system as well as a complete system of resuscitation and healing arts.

Spin and Abs
- Come and experience forty minutes of a cardio workout on the spin bikes followed by a fifteen minutes of a variety of abdominal exercises. This class will be sure to give you a total body workout on our “world” class bikes while having fun too!

Sunrise Yoga
— Start your day with an invigorating, energizing, and relaxing class of yoga that will incorporate various yoga poses such as forward bends, sit and reach, plank and many more challenging and unique poses and positions.

Total Body Conditioning– Maximize your body’s fat burning potential by adding strength training exercises to your routine. This class utilizes dumbbells, resistance bands, kettle bells, and medicine/stability balls, followed by abdominal exercises. Your body will be burning calories, building lean muscle mass and it will give you a great total body workout in just under an hour.

Vinyasa Flow Yoga— This class is open to all levels! Come and enjoy the upbeat pace of this class. During this class students will “flow” through Sun Salutations, standing and
sitting poses, balancing asanas, plank positions and much more. Modifications to asana are offered to accommodate various abilities.

Yoga Flow
– This class is open to all levels. Come and enjoy the upbeat pace of this class. During class students will flow through Sun Salutations, standing and sitting poses, balancing asanas, back bends and stretches. Modifications to asanas are offered to accommodate various abilities.

Yoga– This class integrates various yoga teachings such as Hatha, Iyengar, and Astranga yoga. It will help you to strengthen your body while also being able to calm your mind, body and spirit.

Zumba®: Fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program. You will love this exhilarating hour of caloric-burning, body-energizing, awe-inspiring movements combined with core strengthening exercises.

Please note: All participants MUST sign the risk and release form located at the weight room desk, or in the Campus Rec office, before attending any of the above IMUA fitness classes. This schedule is subject to change at any time. Cancelled classes will be posted outside of the studio.
