Academic Support Campus Development Community Outreach A Gathering Place To augment existing academic support services provided for all students at Kilohana The Academic Success Center and in particular programs that target first generation, low income, and minority students through the Student Support Services Program (SSSP) and the Minority Achievement & Access Program (MAAP), the PISC focuses these academic success services for Pacific Islander students.


The Tutors-on-Demand (TOD) service enables Pacific Islander students to access tutoring services whenever and wherever as well as at the PISC. Our Pacific Islander tutors will set up appointments for you to meet at a mutually agreeable time and place including weekends and in the evening.

Math Tutor - Individualized tutoring available for the following classes

  • Math 100, 103, 104, 104F, 115, 121, 205 & 206
  • CS 101 & 135

Business Tutor - Tutoring services and study groups are available for the following courses:

  • ACC 250 (now ACC 201): Financial Accounting
  • ACC 251 (now ACC 202): Managerial Accounting
  • ENG 209 (now ENG 287: Rhetoric): WI/ Writing for Business
  • ECON 130: Introduction to Microeconomics
  • ECON 131: Introduction to Macroeconomics
  • ECON 340: Money & Banking
  • BUS 240: Business Law
  • BUS 290: Critical Thinking
  • MKT 310: Principles of Marketing
  • FIN 320: Principles of Business Finance

Writing Tutor - Students who need help in improving their writing skills or need someone to read their drafts may sign up for this service.

Highly recommended for students in the following courses, which require students to meet with a tutor:

  • ENG 100T
  • ESL 100T
  • All classes

How to Sign Up:

Pacific Islander students who wish to utilize the TOD must be approved by the PISC Educational Specialist, Desha Staley-Raatior ( Once approved, Desha will set up the initial contact with the appropriate tutor. To sign up, please send an email to Desha ( requesting a tutor.

Study Nights @ the PISC

Starting October 1, 2014, the PISC has extended hours to 10:00 PM on Monday - Thursday nights specifically to allow students a place to study quietly, meet with tutors, or conduct study groups. The main center is designated as quiet zone while the art gallery lobby is reserved for study groups and tutoring.
