This is the UH Hilo report. News about people, events and programs at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo.
UH Hilo has teamed up with the University of Central Florida and the University of Houston on a U.S. Department of Defense-funded research project to determine the effects of parental separation from the family unit. The study focuses on the effects of separation due to military deployment and separation due to parental separation or divorce on families.
The project is looking for non-military families going through a recent separation or divorce and military families with a currently deployed service member in any branch. All families must have at least one child between the ages of 7 and 17.
One child and one parent from each family will take part in the study by completing interviews and surveys, as well as collecting non-invasive biological measures of stress. Each family is given $100 compensation for their participation.
