This is the UH Hilo report. News about people, events and programs at the University of Hawai'i at Hilo.
A wall of Hale Kauanoe Residence Hall has been transformed into a showcase for important artistic, cultural, and historical themes following the recent unveiling of a new mural. Konikoni Ana I Ka Iwi Hilo celebrates the histories of our three Hilo – Hilo One, Hilo Hanakahi and Hilo Palikū, through its various images and stories.
The mural was created by a core hui of students in partnership with Creative Director Estria Miyashiro of the non-profit Estria Foundation, and lead artists Kanoa Castro, Beethoven Sausal and Jesse Velasquez and supported by various UH Hilo programs. It’s the latest installment of the Estria Foundation’s Mele Murals project in which local artists, youth and other community members are creating a series of large-scale outdoor murals spanning the eight major islands.
